Hey, Pat Rigsby here and I want to talk to you about coming up with fitness marketing ideas.
It’s a question that I commonly get from members in my online community or private clients or mastermind members. And the truth is sometimes I think that we try to get too creative. We try to come up with these off the wall ideas and we’re trying to be two different instead of thinking about what’s actually working and just doing it better. Okay. Because that’s really the two schools of thought, right? Either we try to do something completely different that we have no proof of, no actual knowledge that it will be effective. And so we’re going to spend a lot of money and a lot of time trying to put something together and there’s a lot of risk or we just cut and paste somebody else’s tactic either their campaign or their newsletters or just basically swiping and deploying somebody else’s kind of done for you system.
So, the better approach, the approach that I would recommend when you’re trying to kind of come up with ideas is simple. You know, research what’s working, go out there and see what’s actually working to attract the people that you want to attract that ideal client. And then our goal should simply be to make it 10 times better.
Now, let me give you a couple examples. If somebody has an effective lead magnet on Facebook, then you know, let’s say they’re giving away a dozen recipes, how can you give away a hundred if somebody has something where they’re giving away 10 fitness and fat loss hacks, how can you give away 50 or a hundred of those? If someone in your market is offering a a transformation contest, how can you give a double your money back guarantee to separate yourself?
There’s always something that you can do to take what’s working and make it better. But so many people they settle for just being kind of a carbon copy of everybody else or they settle for being just another me-too business or they let the pendulum swing way too far in the opposite direction. They try to do just to be different, just to be unique instead of understanding that really our goal is to take something that’s proven and build on it and improve on it and capitalize on it.
I mean, it’s a simple, simple philosophy, but when you’re crafting your marketing plan, when you’re looking for tactics to employ, my recommendation is – look at what’s working, play to your strengths. Now obviously just because somebody else is good at direct mail, if you’re not comfortable direct mail, if you’re not comfortable with really measuring results like that, or if you’re not in a position where you can invest that type of cashflow and really absorb that kind of risk, it’s not for you. But play to your strengths and understand where you’re comfortable and then take what’s working and really build on it.
Just try to five or 10 X what’s out there. And if you do that, you’re going to see that you’re getting great results and you’re building on a platform of proof. You’re building on a platform of success.
Something that I think that we always do in other facets of our life when we’re designing a training program, we go and look at other experts and we say, what’s working for them, right? When we’re trying to employ something, when it comes to nutrition, we look at what other experts might be sharing and we say, “Okay, what’s working for them?” Then we put our own twist on it and we plug it into our business. Same thing applies with marketing. Don’t just swipe and deploy, swipe and make better. Take
something and borrow it and improve on it. If you do that, you’re not going to have any shortage of ideas and you’re going to know with great how often is that what you’re doing is going to be effective.
