Trevor Wittwer – Show Notes
Trevor Wittwer is the co-founder of Habit Catalyst, a software program for fitness and nutrition professionals that automates the accountability and education process with clients. Born and raised in Redwood Falls, Minnesota, Trevor owns and operates Functional Fitness, the complete health and fitness solution for busy people designed to shed the unwanted weight, create the body one wants and the vibrant health each desires.
Trevor left Redwood Falls for about a decade attending college at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN and playing basketball overseas in Germany.
After his playing career in Germany was over, he set his sites on developing the business that he had started while on summer breaks for three years. He personal training and entered the group space of boot camps, and as Trevor’s clientele grew he was able to make a deal with his local community center to use their space to continue his business.
“And at that point I started to get really serious about the business side of things, but I was clueless on the business front.”
Then he was introduced to a mentor: Pat Rigsby.
“I really started to grow my business at that point with that mentoring that I got; I think that was really one of the major turning points for me in my business was just hiring a coach.”
Things continued to grow and Trevor wanted to upscale. He ended up buying and renovating a building piece-by-piece until he had the facility that he wanted.
In his hometown of Redwood Falls the average household income is quite low, but by having larger group programs he was able to keep the price point down for clients.
“In the industry we are definitely on the lower end, but we are still three times as expensive as anything else in town.”
About a year ago, Trevor started a new business called Habit Catalyst. This came to life after a problem he had when trying to develop a nutrition coaching section to his business. He and his friend Kane, the owner of Core Health and Fitness, were able to work together to build something that would work in the fitness industry to teach, track and provide accountability. This also helped the coach’s focus more on coaching by getting them away from the admin work of tracking their client’s progress in the nutrition section.
“For my business to grow it was really about doing everything I could possibly do to take care of my clients.”
In the early stages of Trevor’s business he would reflect at all the long hours and work he was putting into his business, wondering if it was all worth it.
“It was kind of almost the necessary trials that you need to go through in order to create something more valuable down the road.”
