Hey Pat Rigsby and in this episode, I want to talk about the truth and how it’s kind of a funny thing. So let’s get started.
Welcome to The Fitness Business School podcast – the show for fitness business owners who want to grow their income, increase their impact and improve their lifestyle. Be sure to listen til the end of this episode, because we have a brand new special offer exclusive for listeners. So stay tuned.
As business owners. Why do we so often avoid the obvious business owners will try to rationalize their, their income shortfalls by blaming competition or the economy, or, you know, whatever circumstances are outside their control, suggesting that their focus is just on helping people and serving when the obvious truth is, you know, in less we’re talking about some of these limitations for capacity or whatever else that we’ve been dealing with as of late. I mean, they’re just, you know, they haven’t done what it takes to run a healthy business, right? A client will chase every kind of fad, quick fix diet, they’ll blame, you know, their metabolism or the thyroid or whatever else. And they’ll look you in the eye and say, well, I eat clean. I don’t know what the problem is, but yeah.
Then they go home and cozy up in front of TV and watch Netflix with a pint of Ben and Jerry’s right. So, you know, I mean, I know so many business owners they’ll go to conferences and they’ll say, Hey, I’m all about community and culture, but they, they kind of navigate their relationships. You know, like they’re being chased by zombies, right? Like they’re just running away from the people that need their help. They, they, they don’t want to engage. They basically host sessions and leave. They don’t serve people. They don’t connect. They don’t coach. I mean, you know, these are all kind of extreme cases, but you know, there, there’s a lot of truth kind of woven in there because honestly, things are far more simple than we make them. 98% of the time. If, if you want more leads, then you probably need to just quit scrolling, social media and connect with a few human beings.
If you want to sell better, choose a sales process that actually practice it. If you want to improve retention, treat every day with your clients, like it’s the day that decides where their client stays or leaves, you want to build an online business. I hear this one all the time. We’ll treat it with the same urgency and focus that you’d treat opening a second physical location. You know, that that focus that you have when you sign a multi-six figure lease and you buy equipment and you know, you’re, you’re on the hook for so much, have that same focus for the online business. You want to create a business that magnetically attracts more clients like your best clients.
Then get those clients feedback on why they’re with you, why they joined, what that, and more, enjoy more of what they don’t like. And once you nail down all that double down on it and make that the, the core of your business, I mean, you want more friends be a better friend. It’s I mean, it, it’s not nearly as complicated as we make it. If you want to take a vacation, schedule it and work backwards from there to make it happen. Schedule the day, put a deposit down, make sure you have coverage in the facility, start saving some money, put it in a separate account, reverse engineer, right? If you want your ideal business, get clear about what it looks like and let that guide every choice that you’re making when it comes to business, let’s face it. Some things are just pretty straight forward to don’t dance around them. And well, well, I’m kind of on the subject of truths that are just obvious, but most people ignore only about 20% of the fitness business owners that I meet actually have a coach, right? For business, for life or training, whatever. And you know, and for me, that’s, that’s, it’s just odd. Would you want a doctor who doesn’t think going to the doctor is important? And then a lot of times we tell our clients, Hey, don’t believe in quick fixes or magic bullet solutions, but then we turn around and buy whatever somebody’s touting on a Facebook ad, right? Instead of sticking to the fundamentals. And we know that getting someone to make progress towards their fitness goals is the same as basically achieving any goal. You determine the starting point.
You determine the goal. You create a map from a to B and then you start following the map day by day. And you course correct as you go. And if you run into detours, you problem solve and you just, you know, persevere and you know, the same things. We teach our clients, getting out of our comfort zone, being consistent, having focus, it’s all the same stuff that works for us. And then, you know, a, another straightforward thing that a lot of people just kind of dance around. If you want to run a business, you don’t really have a choice. You have to be good at getting clients, no clients. And you just have a really time consuming hobby. So, you know, they’re, there, it’s a basic, it’s not a necessary evil it’s. I mean, it’s just part of the path that we choose, right? And then, you know, another kind of an unpleasant truth sometimes is if you want to know, what’s important to you, go look at your schedule and your bank statement. If you’re not investing time or money in something personally or professionally, then you can say it’s important, but actions speak louder than words. So I mean, the, the idea of creating your ideal business, it’s not nearly as complicated as most of us make it. Now that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Everything that’s significant and meaningful requires some degree of commitment and focus and work, but recognize the obvious, keep things simple, know where you want to go and start stepping. That’s the truth that honestly, 98% of business owners in our industry avoid. So if you want to succeed, you have to become part of that 2% that understands the truth. Excellent.
