Hey, Pat Rigsby here and in today’s episode, I want to share a lesson with you from Star Wars. Let’s get started.
Welcome to the fitness business school podcast. The show for fitness business owners who want to grow their income, increase their end impact and improve their lifestyle. Be sure to listen to the end of this episode, because we have a brand new special offer exclusive for listeners. So stay tuned.
So not too long ago my family and I, we, we went to the Galactic Star Cruiser at Disney. You know, our oldest, Tyler is an aspiring screenwriter. He is fascinated with all things film and certainly a big fan of Star Wars stuff. That kind of is what piqued his original interest in I think working in the movies. And obviously
things have expanded and grown since then. But you know, I think he’s enjoyed a lot of that.
So we went to the Galactic Star cruiser. It was a, a really neat and immersive experience. And you know, I think that what was, what was really interesting to me was how so many people kind of just assumed a different identity while they were there, right? Like they, they wore whatever their preferred
Star Wars garb was, and just dove in headfirst to essentially being part of a live action play or something, right? And you know what, what it made me think about, well, there were many takeaways for me, and it’s beyond the scope of this podcast, unless I want this to turn into like a two hour episode. All the
different things that I thought were really interesting and cool and how this was done so well. But one of the things that, that it reminded me of is this gave an opportunity for people to be whatever they want to be.
And, you know, it’s, it’s not my place to tell people what they want to be or whatever else. And in fact, man, I really appreciate their ability to just kind of pull back the curtain and say, Hey, this is what they want, and they own it, and they become that, and that just becomes their identity for that weekend.
And it’s kind of a cool transformation. It, you know, I mean, it’s kinda like kids during Halloween or something like that. And, you know, it, it kind of brings me to a different point where maybe we think about, you know, why as adults can’t we be whatever, whoever we want, you know, within reason.
Obviously I’m five, nine and 50 years old. I’m probably not going to be an NBA player, but I mean, we can within reason, we can be who we choose to be, but, but we have to choose, right?
Like, we have to decide what we want to show up as, who we want to be, what kind of stuff we want to do. And you know, in, and I think the, the, the stuff that people often talk about, oh, I’m gonna grind and I’m gonna hustle and I’m going to you know, talk about all like, things in all these kind of abstract, what I
consider kind of meaningless terms, instead of, I am going to be the best person in my market or in the world at solving these clients’ problems. Or I’m going to be the best leader in, you know of any small business in my town or whatever else. I just think that we can probably reframe the way that we think
about things and we talk about what we want to be, and then, you know, we have to become the person that does that stuff.
We have to, we have to accept that nobody just magically arrives at being the best in their market. Nobody just magically becomes the best at any particular thing. We have to be the person that, you know, does the things that it takes to get there. We have to be the person who earns the right for that
title. And to me, that is so much better than the, oh, I’m gonna hustle and I’m gonna grind type stuff that feels very Groundhog Day-ish. Like, oh, to what? Like, to what end? You’re going to stay busy and you’re gonna work hard to get to what outcome, what benefit to anybody else. And, you know, so, so when I
think about you know, we can move towards being whatever we want, whether it’s you know, a better business owner, a better parent, a better friend, a better spouse, a better leader but I think we need to say, okay, this is who I want to be and I am going to do all the things that it takes to be that person.
I mean, we, we talk about, you know, somebody wants to lose weight, they need to kind of start behaving like somebody who’s healthy and fit. You know, they need to be more active, they need to make better nutritional choices. They need to essentially do the things that a lot of healthy fit people or
most healthy fit people do well. So they’re assuming those behaviors because we want them to eventually see themselves as this other person. And, you know, I, I think the same holds true in business. If you want to own a great business, then you probably need to think, well, I I’m going to be a great business owner, and this is what great business owners do. This is how they market, this is how they sell, this is how they lead. This is how they basically invest their time.
So if you haven’t thought of it that way, maybe that’s a, just a different lens to look through instead of the traditional, oh, I’ve just got to work harder, but not, you know, I’m not saying this necessarily replaces the hard work. It gives purpose to the hard work. It gives purpose and direction and guidance
to whatever you’re doing. There needs to be some sort of roadmap to follow. It’s a little bit like GPS, right? Like, we need to have a destination in mind because you can drive as fast as you want, but if you’re not driving towards something, then there’s probably not a very good chance you’re gonna end
out in a place that makes you very happy. So if you haven’t thought about it through kind of this perspective, hopefully maybe this this little trip that I took to the Galactic Star Cruiser you know, and the insight that I took away is of some benefit to you because you can be whatever you want.
