Hey Pat Rigsby here and in this episode today, I wanna talk with you about rule number six, when it comes to building your ideal business, let’s get to it.
Welcome to the fitness business school podcast. The show for fitness business owners who want to grow their income, increase their impact and improve their lifestyle. Be sure to listen till the end of this episode, because we have a brand new special offer exclusive for listeners. So stay tuned.
So in the last episode, I talked about you playing your best role. Well, part of you playing your best role is directly linked to the fact that you need to have a great team without a team. You’re just not gonna be successful. Let’s face it. Success in everything is very much a team sport. Now, early on in business, we may feel like we’re doing it all. We’re wearing all the hats. We’re doing everything that can possibly be done. And maybe we just don’t have the luxury of hiring a great team because we can’t compensate. ’em we don’t have the ability to outsource or delegate or scale in a way we want to, but over time, if we’re doing things the right way, if we’re delivering a great experience, if we’re delivering results to our client, there’s gonna be more demand for us than we can individually supply. So we have to get help. Sometimes that helps under our roof, right? We, we get administrative help.
We bring on other coaches. In other ways, we expand our team through connecting with providers outside of our business. It could be an accountant, an attorney, or a super duper videographer slash podcast producer. It could be a cleaning service or any number of other people or providers who are basically helping you execute your vision at the highest possible level. That’s what we are all looking for. In order for you to have your ideal business, you have to move away from wearing all the hats. You’ve got to start bringing people onto your team. Now, early on, when we add team members, it’s often gonna be, part-time usually dictated by finances. So we can’t necessarily bring on the amount or even type of help we ultimately want. But as we evolve, we have to bring people into bigger roles on our team. If we want to achieve our vision of building an ideal business, where our business doesn’t own every waking hour, when we do this, we not only have to identify the right people that connect with our vision, but we have to empower them so they can do great work so they can play their best role in the business.
And it’s my belief and my experience at almost anybody you’re gonna bring into your business wants to be successful in the role they play. So if we wanna bring that person on board, they have to connect with the vision that we have. They have to share it. They have to have the aptitude to achieve what you’re asking them to do, and the role you want ’em to play. They’ve gotta have the right attitude to fit in with your culture. Then you have to onboard them in a way that sets them up to be successful. Remember plenty of great people, flounder in businesses because they’ve not been set up to succeed. You’ve gotta continue to support them and facilitate their ongoing success and progress and development. If you’re gonna have a great high performing team where you ultimately play your best role in the business and other this and others can play the role that they aspire to play as well.
Now you may be thinking, Hey, I don’t want a big team. I don’t want a big organization. That’s fine in my business. I don’t really want that either. I’ve had a bigger company in the past and it wasn’t really a great fit for me personally, but I also know that nobody succeeds at a high level alone. It doesn’t matter if you’re hiring freelancers or contractors or having a bigger staff under one roof to give you a good example. Like if you hire a freelancer to do something for you, a website, a flyer, design something else, you’ve gotta set them up to succeed. You’ve gotta give them clear instructions, examples of what you want. Tell them what being great doing this job looks like. So they can set you up or so you can set them up to succeed. They can be in aligned with what your vision is and they can do their best work because they’re not starting from a position of kind of being clueless, right? If you set people up to execute in a certain role where you can achieve your vision, now you can play your best role. You can have more impact. You can earn more income. You can have a better lifestyle, but you’ve got to bring people on and you’ve got to set them up to succeed.
