Hey Pat Rigsby here and in this episode, I want to give you a single rule to operate your business by. Embrace this rule, apply it and it’ll change everything. So let’s get to it.
Welcome to The Fitness Business School podcast – the show for fitness business owners who want to grow their income, increase their impact and improve their lifestyle. Be sure to listen til the end of this episode, because we have a brand new special offer exclusive for listeners. So stay tuned.
So there are a few rules that I try to live by that I try to operate my business by but there’s one that seems more uncommon than it should, but it, you know, it’s painfully obvious and highly effective and it’s this keep it simple. There are so many wonderful things about simplicity. It’s more efficient, it’s more effective. Frankly. Simplicity is a lot more fulfilling. See we who we exist or operate in a world with seemingly unlimited choices. You, you, you have so many things coming at you from so many different directions. And so to the people that you serve. So everybody is being bombarded with more information, more opportunity, more decisions to make than they’ve ever been. So you have to focus on the things that matter most.
And ultimately that means you have to make decisions that allow you to harness your energy, harness your effort and attention, and allow you to avoid investing so much time and energy on the minutia on the rest. I mean, honestly, from an observational standpoint, it’s amazing how complicated people want to make things. Maybe it’s the fear of choosing the wrong thing. I mean, all you have to do is go with somebody to a restaurant and watch how they peruse the menu. And it, you know what I mean? They, they act as if it’s the last meal they’ll ever have some times because they look at every option and they, they tentatively make a decision and start to second, guess the decision. Then they say, well, what are you going to get? And don’t have confidence in that decision they’ve made. And you know, so, so we, we fear choosing the wrong thing.
Sometimes we don’t choose any one thing. And ultimately that’s a decision just advocating the decision to begin with. And maybe we feel that success ma like it, it, it requires complexity. It requires something really complicated if you want to achieve meaningful or big things. And, you know, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen hardworking business owners get lured into some gurus, highly complex business growth plan. And they’re the, the, the real kind of trick behind the scenes is part of the complexity is knowing that you can blame it on the consumer because they couldn’t execute it. So it’s not your fault. And the, the thing that, that I’ve learned from, from coaching business owners for over 15 years from having the opportunity to spend time around not only virtually all of the most successful people in the fitness industry, but, but hundreds of people who achieved great success in other fields, the, the, the common thread between all of them is that the successful people, aren’t the ones who do the most things. No, they’re the ones who do the most important things, the most impactful things.
And, you know, nobody loves to hear it when, when they’re not having success, but eyes are the clients that you’re getting results for. You’re, you’re kind of imparting some of the same stuff to them. The truth is fundamentals just don’t go out of style. Novelty wears out, but usefulness and simply being better at the things that matter that doesn’t go out of style. So, you know, if you spend your time doing the things that are most important and ignore the rest of the noise, as much as you can. I mean, I’m not you know, I, I’m not lacking the, the awareness that saying, Hey, ignore social media in its entirety, or ignore the noise that comes with the, the world we live in right now. It completely, I mean, you, you may not be able to do that, but if you’re prioritizing the things that matter most and giving them your first and best attention, you’re almost assured of success. But I almost daily, I hear from someone, at least one person replying to one of my emails or who listened to the podcast, or who’s considering our coaching program saying, Hey, I’m listening to five, 10 different coaches.
I’m listening to what this person has to say. And that person has to say, and honestly, it’s too much noise. It’s scattering your attention and your efforts. And that just doesn’t work. It slows you down because you never leave consumption mode and you never shift to production mode, frankly. It’s likely rooted in an unwillingness to commit to anyone path and without a decision without commitment. And, and probably more importantly, the required follow through goals never become realities. If you want to achieve anything meaningful, you must decide and you must direct your focus. You must concentrate your effort instead of dabbling in a little bit of everything, let’s face it. You can’t focus on everything. So decide what’s important to you decide where you want to go craft a simple plan to get you from where you are to that place. You aspire to be. If you need help crafting a plan, obviously I’d love to be able to help you. I’d love to work with you in doing it, but I’m not the only person who can help you find somebody you believe in find somebody you’re confident in that you trust to help you craft the plan if you need that assistance, but then work the plan day after day. The great thing about simplicity is that it allows you to gain clarity and focus and speed prospect or progress comes far more quickly. Momentum builds because you’re taking action.
You’re executing instead of waiting around for this lightning strike of momentum to happen and inspire you into action, your action creates the momentum and your goals are achieved. But honestly it all starts with being willing to say no to a lot of the things that have been using up your mental energy, your time, and letting go of things like procrastination or perfectionism, which is in all honesty, just a synonym for procrastination and worrying about things you can’t control and starting to embrace. The fact that fewer things done better is the fastest route to where you want to be.
