Hey, Pat Rigsby here. And in this episode, I want to talk about how we self sabotage and avoid the obvious when it comes to having the success we want and building a great business, let’s get to it.
Welcome to The Fitness Business School podcast – the show for fitness business owners who want to grow their income, increase their impact and improve their lifestyle. Be sure to listen til the end of this episode, because we have a brand new special offer exclusive for listeners. So stay tuned.
So why do we avoid the obvious business owners? Try to rationalize their lack of come by blaming the economy or the competition? They they’re, they’re quick to say, well, Hey, I’m focused on, on helping people. And the obvious truth is that maybe they’re just not really doing what it takes to be a good business owner, a good operator. I mean, it’s like a client who chases every new quick fix diet or, you know, blames or a thyroid issue, or you know, some other, you know, excuse and they’ll look you in the eye and say, well, I eat clean. I don’t know why I’m not losing what, when the obvious truth is, you know, they’re, they’re snacking on a bunch of junk food while they’re sitting in front of TV, watching Netflix. And, you know, I, I know plenty of business owners who say, Hey, I’m all about community and we have a great culture, but they, they run from developing relationships. Like, you know, they’re dealings with, with somebody, with the plague. I mean, they they’re, they, they focus on the people, the, the five or 10 people that they do have a close relationship with and then wonder why, you know, everybody else leaves because they get ignored. I mean, things are a lot simpler than we make them almost all of the time.
You know? I mean, if, if you want more prospects, if you want more people that you potentially can get to, to become clients, then quit scrolling, social media and go meet a few people face to face or, or, or build some individual connections. If you wanna sell better, then pick a sales process and actually practice it. If you wanna improve your retention treat every day, like it’s the one that decides whether or not a client or whether they decide to leave. If you wanna build an online business, treat it with the same urgency and focus. You’d treat opening a second physical location in your town. You wanna create a business that ally attracts more clients like your best clients, get those best clients, detailed feedback on why they’re with you, what they enjoy more of what they don’t like. So you can nail the details. Then double down on those things and build more attractive business. I mean, simple stuff, right? You want more friends, maybe you need to focus on being a better friend. You want to take a vacation, schedule it, work backwards and, and block off the time.
Make sure you’ve got the coverage set up a bank account and put some money in there to fund it. I mean, it’s not complicated. I mean, if you wanna build what I call your ideal business, you need to get clear about what that looks like and let that shape your daily decisions. Some things are just really straightforward. So stop dancing around them. Here are a couple more thoughts about obvious truths that I think most people ignore only about 20% of the fitness business owners. I meet actually have a coach for, for business, a life coach or, or even for their training. Now, let me ask you this. Would you want to go to a doctor who doesn’t think that going to a doctor is important enough to do it themselves? So what about maybe we tell our clients not to believe in quick fixes and magic bullet solutions, but then the minute somebody talks about promising 50 to a hundred new clients in their Facebook ad. I, I mean, we click and we’re on a strategy session within a couple hours, and then here’s another really obvious one, helping somebody pursue their fitness goals is basically the same process for achieving any goal.
You determine the starting point. You determine the goal. You create a map from that point a to that point B, then you follow the map and you course correct. If your destination changes or you run into detours, we know this, we do this for people every day, but we don’t do it ourselves. And you know, another obvious one that we probably need to, to lean into instead of avoiding, if you wanna be a business owner, you need to get really good at getting clients. If you don’t have the ability to consistently get clients, then you just have a really expensive and challenging hobby. And then, and maybe a, a, a good way to, to step back and, and understand what we really value is. I mean, look at your schedule and your bank statement. There are two wonderful indicators of what’s important to you because if you’re not investing time or money into something personally or professionally, you’re probably saying it’s not very important. Look, creating your ideal business, achieving any realistic goal that, that you have for yourself, enjoying the success you deserve. It’s a, not all that complicated. It’s probably not as complicated as you’re making it, but make no mistake. That does not mean it’s easy. Everything significant, meaningful requires some degree of commitment. It acquires work, but recognize the obvious. Look for ways to keep things simple, know what you want. And go start stepping towards that. That’s the truth that like 98% of people avoid, but that’s why they don’t achieve the things that they want to achieve. Embrace the obvious and reach your Goal.
