Hey Pat Rigsby here and in this episode. I want to ask you a tough question that honestly, most business owners will say no to, but the successful ones will all say yes to. If you wanna learn more, let’s get to it.

So you may have seen it. There was a popular post going around the, you know, the, the, my friend Jonathan Goodman shared that I shared that a bunch of other people in the fitness industry shared that basically Jonathan had pulled off of Reddit where a person, just you know, a client was talking about how he enjoyed having this coach had lost a lot of weight. He is in the best shape of his life. The, the place that he goes is $250 a month. And a friend of his was kind of ridiculing him. He was kind of making fun of him because this guy goes to playing fitness and pays $10 a month, and doesn’t really go much. And hasn’t really made any progress. And according to the post, the, the friend is overweight. And so the guy who had seen these wonderful results Talked to his financial advisor and the financial advisor’s feedback was your friend can’t believe that you paid $250 from a up to be in great shape. I can’t believe your friend is willing to stay fat for $240 a month. And, you know, I mean, there, there’s a lot of a, a lot going on in this post be before between The fact that maybe if your friend is ridiculing you for, or seeing great progress and getting in the great shape, best shape of your life. And instead of celebrating that maybe you need new friends Or, you know some assurance that $240 a month extra for the guy going to planet fitness would get him to be motivated and consistent and everything else, like a lot to unpack there.
But the thing that that I wanted to touch on in this episode was how quickly fitness professionals jumped on this bandwagon shared this thing, commented on John’s post on mine, on so many others that I saw share where they’re like, yes, that’s the truth. You know, I mean, because let’s face it, it, it validates what they think. There’s a lot of confirmation bias going on there. They think, well, yeah, we need to invest in our health. You guys are, are crazy for only wanting to spend $10 a month to go to, to planet fitness. You should be willing to invest in achieving your goals. But the thing that, that I, that I kind of find interesting about it is that so many of those same people are kinda struggling in their own business or their career, right? I, I have the unique position to, to, to interact with so many fitness business owners, fitness professionals that, you know, they’re just getting by they’re, they’re, they’re just keeping their head above water. And so many of them, you know, they’re, they’re quick to tell somebody else to invest in being a better version of themselves in, you know, in, in being healthier and being fit.
They say, well, you know what, you, you should see that this is an investment not expense, but those same people, aren’t, aren’t real eager to invest in help to build a better career, to build a better business. And, you know, the, you know, those are the same people who will jump in my free Facebook group and ask to download all the free guides and all that stuff. But man, you don’t hear from ’em when it comes to joining a coaching program, because E even though our coaching program is guaranteed, you don’t have to pay for the first 60 days or six weeks or whatever it is. We, we keep kind of tweaking that because we we’ve seen such an influx of new people. You know, those are the same people who don’t think prospects should do it themselves for their business, but they, they feel very comfortable doing it themselves, even though they have no business background.
You know, they, these are kind of the same people who will say, Hey, I wanna sell a high ticket and get these people to pay me, you know, several hundred, even a thousand dollars a month, but I just wanna learn organic marketing. I don’t wanna pay for leads. You know, it it’s, it it’s just a real dis neck. And so again, having been in this industry for a long time, you know, you see patterns you know, patterns evolve, and you, you recognize very quickly that the most successful business owners all see education and in professional development as an investment, whether that be the becoming better at your craft or becoming a better business owner, all the business owners recognize that they need to be good at marketing, at selling, at operating a business. If they’re gonna have a team, you know, at management, at leadership at operations they all recognize that. And if they have a gap in that area, they invest in it. In fact, everyone that I’ve known has hired a coach, a consultant have been part of a mastermind, not necessarily all three but everyone I’ve known.
And we’re talking about literally at this point, thousands of successful business owners they all invest in growth. Every one of them ha has been more than willing to pay for advertising or market in some format. Even the ones that we don’t think of as advertisers, because we don’t see them running Facebook ads, they, they invest in any number of ways to, to market that maybe you are just not seeing. So the question that I, that I tend to get by act to is, are you buying what you’re selling? If you are unwilling to invest in coaching for the areas you need to improve, how can you credibly ask others to do the same? And sure we can rationalize it and say, well, this is their health. Well, I would tell you, this is your family’s finance financial security. I would say that, you know, setting your family up to be successful, creating you know, an environment where there’s not financial stress, being able to pay for your kids to go to college, being able to fund a retirement falls in that kind of high priority as well. So are you buying the things that you’re selling?
Are you getting help when it comes to things that aren’t in your comfort zone and aren’t in your current knowledge base, are you getting help to stay consistent and move towards your goals and get outta that comfort zone? If you are not, if you think, Hey, I’m just gonna cobble together, free stuff on, you know, on Facebook or podcasts or whatever else, that’s fine because some people are great at that. I mean, I I’ve mentioned it before on podcast. Heck I have a, a coaching client who literally built his house by watching YouTube videos and just hired out for help when it came to plumbing and electric. So sure. I like it’s possible 100% it’s possible. But if that’s you, then you don’t really have solid footing to stand on here. When the prospects you engage with say, they’re gonna do the same. Okay. So understand that, you know, if you don’t think coaching is really valuable, then you probably shouldn’t expect the people that you encounter to think it’s really valuable. Now, I know some people are gonna be skeptical of me saying this or whatever else, but you know, I’ve got 17 years of coaching business owners.
I’ve got about 20 years of being in business us to, to substantiate this. It’s always kind of proven to be true now. Does that mean you have to buy the highest in thing available to you? No, you, you have to, to find the right solutions for you, just like your prospects have to in the right solutions for them, but I’m telling you it’s a mindset, it’s a mentality. It, it, it’s one of those basic truths in life that if, you know, if you want to be better, you probably can’t go it alone. And very, very few people or do it yourselfers every area of their life successfully. There may be people who want to do everything themselves, but odds are, you’re gonna see them kind of cobble together a lot of halfhearted solutions if that’s the case. And they’ll be great at the things that they are skilled in that they’re experts in when it comes to do it yourself. So they, that’s maybe a little bit of a soapbox speech for you today. Just something I wanted to touch on because odds are, you’ve probably seen this post. If you’re not in our fitness business owners, free Facebook group, you can see it there. I shared it there.
You know, lots to think about beyond, I just covered on this episode. But, but I definitely wanted to touch on this because you know, if you are somebody who wants more, wants to be better as a business owner wants to provide for your family more effectively wants to iron out some of the stressors that that being a business owner may, may invite get more clients, earn more income, build a great business that, that you actually enjoy owning. There are people out there not just me. There are people out there that can help you. Now. I would tell you just like I would tell a prospective training client vet, the options available, find the one that’s right for you. Don’t just choose the one with the fanciest Facebook ad. Don’t just choose the, the shiny object. Don’t don’t make desperate decisions anymore than people probably shouldn’t go to the grocery store when they’re hungry. So keep that in mind, hopefully this, it is a little bit thought provoking for you and understand that there are a lot of people that you can help that need help, that are willing to be help, but sometimes we need help to.
