Just the other day, I saw a post from a mentor friend colleague or an expert that I know talking more that talked about three different options people have when they make decisions. They’re they either have guesswork hard work or framework is the options. And I thought it was really brilliant, which it’s not a shock, he’s wonderful with using language to, to convey ideas in a real simple format, because in truth, that’s the same set of options we have available to us when it comes to, to growing a business, we can just kind of guess our way through it and hope that something works. You know, we can just grab any number of options out of the air and hope that one of them proved to be somewhat effective. A lot of times with not much evidence behind them or not much you know, not, not much actual actual experience doing those things, but, but, you know, I mean, that’s, that’s it, you, you, you just kinda start from blank page and just brainstorm and, and hope you can come up with, with, with something that’ll work. And, you know, occasionally you strike gold most of the time, you don’t get results that match the level of of expectation or hope that you have. And some of the time, you know, it, it just fails miserably because either you you’ve arrived at the, the tactics that you’re using to grow your business because of some sort of, you know, manipulative marketing that, that over promised and under delivered, or you tried something that, you know, it might appeal to you, but it doesn’t really speak to your target market.
I mean, there are any number of reasons why just starting from a blank page w why those things don’t work most of the time. Now that’s not to say that they don’t work a little bit at the time, so sure. You’re going to find that kind of needle in a haystack, so to speak, but it’s definitely not the most efficient path. And then the second the second approach is when things slow down when, when business becomes stagnant or even maybe regresses is just to, to put your head down and work harder to do the things you’ve always done put in longer hours you know, hustle, grind, all, all those wonderful buzzwords that may sound, sound great on, on t-shirts or image quotes on social media, but they, they sapped the life out of you and you get burned out and you become resentful about your work, and you look up and 10 years into your business. You’re still acting like a startup you’re, you’re working 80 hour weeks in a business. The, that might be paying you a couple of dollars an hour when you really look at everything that you’re putting into it versus what you’re deriving from it. So, I mean, make no mistake, hard work, plays a part in building a successful business.
But if that is your only tool in the toolbox, then ultimately you’re probably going to run up against a wall of of in many cases, your own making your own burnout, your own frustration, because, you know, you weren’t, you weren’t evolving, you weren’t really growing as a business owner. And then finally, the third option, which I think, you know, as I mentioned talkie did a wonderful job using language here is framework and in our world framework is, you know essentially something that you can borrow from that’s proven that gives you some, some context and gives you some, you know, some, some raw material to work with. You have a starting point that’s built on a foundation of successful experience, but you can take this kind of open architecture, if you will, and make it your own. You can take the you know, you can, you, you can take the concept, you can take the, the mechanics of something and adapt the message to fit your target market and adapt the, the format to, to play to your individual strengths. You can basically say, okay, this is our starting point. We don’t have to stare at a blank page.
And, you know, this is how we’re going to build something that gives us the highest probability of success. And what I’ve always found interesting is that is the way that almost every successful fitness professional, I know designs programs, they start with a framework. They start with kind of this expectation that a program is going to contain these specific elements and elements may be flexible depending on the needs of the client, right? Based on an assessment, which again, is usually based on a framework, they’re going to be kind of boxes that are filled in, you know, you’re not crafting the boxes on the fly when you’re assessing somebody or designing a program you’re starting with with some sort of general template. And it just may be categories of the things that you’re addressing, you know, whether it’s you know, some sort of movement preparation or warm up or corrective exercises. And then, you know, perhaps it’s power training or strength, training, or conditioning, whatever your categories are when, when designing a program, almost everybody has them. They, they don’t just start at a blank page and say, I don’t know if we should do a warm up, or I don’t know if there should be strength involved in this program. And, you know, and then even backing up a step further when we’re making these decisions. There’s an assessment process. And I, again, I don’t know anybody that that starts from a blank page and doesn’t have a bit of a process in place for designing their assessment and, or, or executing that assessment. So when you think about the way that you are going to grow and improve your business, this idea that your just going to guess off a blank page, or, or just put your head down and work relentlessly, you know, that those aren’t the same things that you’re likely doing in the areas of your business or your life that are thriving.
You know, they’re not the same ways that you’re approaching the things that, that you’re most effective at that you do best. And it makes sense, right? We take things that, that have some sort of track record of being effective. And then we continue to refine them and evolve them. As we learn more, as we grow, it is, it is things kind of change over time. And that’s what a framework is. And so when your Considering what your next steps are to grow your business, my suggestion to you is don’t start from scratch. Don’t just think that the answer is I’ve got to log in an additional 20 hours a week, marketing the answer likely lies in taking a proven framework and adapting it to you, your target market, your strengths in your business. If you do that, you’re going to move faster. You’re going to move farther and you’re going to do it in a way that likely is a lot more enjoyable and a lot of easier, at least simpler than the other options available. So you want to grow your business. Frameworks are the answer.
