Hey, Pat Rigsby here and in today’s episode, I want to talk to you about to-do lists and the truth that gets people stuck. Let’s get started.

You know, one of the things that I think I’ve recognized forever is most everybody that I know ends out forming a to-do list, whether it’s literally on a piece of paper, an index card, or something else, or just in their head. You know, everybody has this list of tasks that they’re going to get done. And unfortunately, you know, most people put all these tasks on this list as if they have the same level of meaning or importance.
I mean, they just each take up a line on the to-do list. And the reality is not all things are created equal. So if everybody has the to-do list, why are some people so much more successful than others? Well I would say that it often, it comes down to priorities. I, if we’re all knocking some things off the to-do list and you know, and, and inching our way down, then I, I guess the, the big key is doing the things that are important rather than the things that are easy. And, you know, it, it’s really simple for so many of us to just knock off a few of those easy tasks and feel productive and feel a sense of accomplishment. But then the big things, the priorities, they go unfinished. They’re the things left undone.
So we’ve knocked off all the, the stuff like do the laundry or mow the lawn, but we’ve not moved forward towards, you know, getting new clients, writing the book, hiring a new employee, all the stuff that really moves the needle. So here are a couple things that, that we can do or maybe ask ourselves to refocus on the priorities that matter most. And so the, the first thing I would ask myself is, what is something that I can do today that will really move the needle quickly on the bigger things that are important to me personally or professionally? Like, what can I do today that’s gonna move the needle towards my personal or professional goals? You know, that, that I think I is the first thing I should ask. Like, not, you know, not something I can finish, but like, what’s one thing I can do quickly that’s gonna move the needle?
And then maybe another question that I could, could ask myself. And you don’t have to ask yourself all of these, but asking yourself, some of ’em just helps you re reshuffle the deck, so to speak. So what’s something that I can do today that will lay the foundation for my legacy, for the future of my business,
for the future of my family? And again, you know, these are just different ways that we can look at our list and say, am I doing the stuff that’s important? And then another one, and, and this is probably one of my two favorites, the what can I do instantly or quickly is a favorite? And then instead of prioritizing
the easy stuff, what’s one thing that I can do to prioritize progress If we think of it with, with those questions, right? Like those, I’m just gonna leave you with those three. Like, what can I do in instantly or quickly that’s going to move the needle? What’s one thing that I can do to, you know, I improve my, my future, my legacy personally or professionally? And then what’s one thing that maybe I can do instead of prioritizing easy that will instead prioritize progress? Well, if you’re thinking about this stuff through that lens, you can put your to-do list, so to speak, under the microscope, and make sure you’re spending time on the important stuff, not just the busy stuff orthe urgent stuff. So if you felt busy, but you felt like you’ve been spinning your wheels, I think this kind of new way to look at your to-do list will solve that problem.
